Happy new year!

Welcome to 2025 and another year of developing language skills! I think it’s clear that people need a sense of things ending and beginning again in order to reenergise and to renew hopes and ambitions for the future. However, the question of the exact time of the end or the beginning is not a simple one. The Chinese and Islamic calendars, for example, put the new year on a different date according to different calendar systems, but the date we celebrate in Europe, based on the Gregorian calendar, has had quite a few changes over the years too. Happy new year from the King’s team!
