Sunny Days and Sayings

We’ve had blue skies and sunshine here in Madrid for so long now that I’m starting to wonder if it will ever rain again! The sunny weather has also made me think about the saying ‘make hay while the sun shines’ and about sayings, or proverbs, in general. This is figurative language; a kind of everyday poetry of good advice: ‘make hay while the sun shines’ has a very similar meaning to ‘seize the day’, but the words used are completely different. Try our new quiz, including dictations of common proverbs, by clicking on the picture below. But remember, when the wet weather finally comes, ‘it never rains, but it pours’.
