Merry Christmas! or Yuletide … or Nöel …

Christmas is a cultural phenomenon. It’s hard to think of another celebration with the same depth and reach across such large expanses of the Earth. That expanse brings a huge amount of variety. Even just in English I can think of several different names for Christmas, and Father Christmas is variously called Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas, Kris Kringle, etc. Different countries bring different customs and cultural richness to the idea of  the midwinter festival.
