Halloween

Halloween (or hallowed evening) has a very long history in pagan and Christian belief: a time to consider the afterlife and the superstitions associated with the unknown. In these more enlightened times the superstition has been largely absorbed into children’s games and popular culture as entertainment. However, many of the familiar tropes of Halloween: the pumpkin, apple-bobbing, fancy dress, trick-or-treating, witches, skulls and ghostly apparitions have very old or ancient origins and were once taken very seriously indeed!
