And then we have Collecting \u2013 <\/strong>from stamps to coins, antiques, cinema memorabilia, orchids and even Barbies<\/a>. D<\/strong> is for darts<\/strong>, a traditional pub game.<\/p>\n For E <\/strong>we have something a bit different: extreme ironing<\/strong>, a\u00a0sport in which people take\u00a0ironing\u00a0boards to remote locations and\u00a0iron\u00a0items of clothing. Apparently it began in 1997 in the UK and people have done their ironing while parachuting, skiing, up a mountain or underwater. F<\/strong> and G<\/strong> are for the less extreme and rather more relaxing pastimes of fishing <\/strong>and gardening. H<\/strong> stands for home brewing<\/strong> for those who like to make their own beer and I<\/strong> represents ice-skating<\/strong>. And for L<\/strong> we have line-dancing<\/strong>, said to have originated in 70s disco despite its association with country and western. We have a double M<\/strong> \u2013 making models \u2013 <\/strong>planes, ships and tanks seem to be popular choices. N <\/strong>is for needlepoint, <\/strong>embroidery done with wool thread on canvas. And O<\/strong> stands for the Japanese tradition of paper-folding, origami<\/strong>. For P<\/strong> we have puzzles<\/strong>, specifically jigsaw puzzles, <\/strong>the perennial time-killer, first commercialized in the eighteenth century. And Q <\/strong>is for the American tradition of quilting<\/strong>, an activity which is often both creative and communal. R<\/strong> is for rock-climbing<\/strong> and for S <\/strong>I\u2019ve selected stand-up comedy<\/strong>, which, of course, is both hobby and profession.<\/p>\n And here\u2019s another weird one: Toy voyaging <\/strong>\u2013 this is for people who want to send a toy of their choice on holiday somewhere around the world \u2013 you don\u2019t believe me?\u00a0 Here\u2019s<\/a> the website! For U<\/strong> I\u2019ve selected another new hobby: urban exploration<\/strong>. This is an activity in which people explore derelict urban structures such as abandoned sewers or underground\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0railways. V<\/strong> is for the more sedentary video-gaming <\/strong>and W <\/strong>for wood-carving. <\/strong>And I\u2019ve cheated slightly to make the general term exercise <\/strong>as a healthy representative of X.<\/strong> Finally we have Y<\/strong> for yoga<\/strong> and Z<\/strong> for zip-lining<\/strong>, a fast way to get from A to B if you\u2019re in the tree tops!
