Si te gusta cocinar aqu\u00ed te dejamos esta receta en ingl\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome back to <strong>the Baker\u2019s Dozen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Food is an essential part of our lives; not only is it necessary for our survival but it relates to so many memories or important moments in our lives.\u00a0 Think of any special day and the food that formed part of that day for you.<\/p>\n<p>For me, cakes and puddings form part of my key memories.\u00a0 Birthdays celebrated with novelty cakes made by sister, rich Christmas cake made by mother and the ultimate cake of all: my wedding cake.\u00a0 Traditionally, wedding cakes in the UK are made from fruit cake, covered in marzipan and icing but as my husband doesn\u2019t like fruit cake, the top layer was a sponge cake made especially for him.\u00a0 After 20 years of marriage he is still reminding me that he never tried it as it was all eaten before it arrived to him!<\/p>\n<p>I have a <strong>sweet tooth<\/strong> and so it\u2019s for this reason that cakes and puddings always stand out for me.\u00a0 My mother in law is a fantastic <strong>baker<\/strong> and so many of the cakes of my husband\u2019s childhood are now part of our lives.\u00a0 The first cake that she made for me was Lemon Cake and so it is this recipe that is being shared.\u00a0 We have made this cake so many times, especially for school events where there are a number of parents who wait for the cake to arrive and would love to have the recipe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lemon Cake<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>175g self-raising flour<\/p>\n<p>115g butter<\/p>\n<p>115g sugar<\/p>\n<p>2 eggs<\/p>\n<p>4 tablespoons of milk (about 60ml)<\/p>\n<p>1 lemon \u2013 juice and rind<\/p>\n<p>3 tablespoons <strong>icing sugar<\/strong> (about 85g)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 180\u00bac<\/li>\n<li><strong>Line<\/strong> a <strong>2lb loaf tin<\/strong> with <strong>baking parchment<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Put the flour, sugar, butter, eggs, milk and the<strong> rind<\/strong> of the lemon in a bowl<\/li>\n<li><strong>Beat together<\/strong> with an electric whisk for 2-3 minutes until it is light in colour.<\/li>\n<li>Pour the mixture into the loaf tin and bake for 1 hour.<\/li>\n<li>To check if it\u2019s done, put a<strong> metal skewer<\/strong> into the centre of the cake and if the skewer comes out clean it\u2019s done.<\/li>\n<li>Whilst it is still hot, make little holes all over the cake with the skewer.<\/li>\n<li>Mix the icing sugar and lemon juice together and <strong>drizzle<\/strong> gently over the top of the cake, allowing the juice to go into the holes made.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sprinkle<\/strong> a little sugar over the top.<\/li>\n<li>Allow to cool in the tin<\/li>\n<li>When it\u2019s cool take it out of the tin and peel off the paper.<\/li>\n<li>Slice and enjoy\u2026\u2026 Perfect with a cup of tea!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/virtualcampus.kingstraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cake-in-tin.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4222 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/virtualcampus.kingstraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cake-in-tin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"381\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/virtualcampus.kingstraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cake-in-tin.jpg 3447w, https:\/\/virtualcampus.kingstraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cake-in-tin-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/virtualcampus.kingstraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cake-in-tin-768x409.jpg 768w, https:\/\/virtualcampus.kingstraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cake-in-tin-1024x545.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 381px) 100vw, 381px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vocabulary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sweet tooth:<\/strong> to describe someone who likes sweet or sugary foods<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baker:<\/strong> a person who makes breads or cakes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Icing sugar: <\/strong>az\u00facar glas<\/p>\n<p><strong>To line: <\/strong>this is the action of placing baking parchment or baking paper in the cake tin to stop the cake from sticking.\u00a0 You normally need to help the paper to stick to the tin by using a little butter to on the sides of the tin first<\/p>\n<p><strong>Loaf tin: <\/strong>a type of mould that you use to make a loaf of bread (pan de molde).
