Learning with Chunks!

A popular theory in learning languages is that rather than grammar and lists of separate words, what we really learn are ‘chunks’ of language. These are groups of words that often go together to serve a common communicative need, like ‘answer the phone’ or ‘I used to work in sales’. However, sometimes these chunks are not examples of common language use but phrases that are so famous that they become permanent cultural and linguistic reference points, like ‘I think, therefore I am’, ‘To be or not to be, that is the question’ and ‘That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’. In the modern era many memorable phrases which can enrich a learner’s language resources come from films.
