In support of Ukraine
We would like to show our support for the people of Ukraine on this blog by drawing attention to one of the many things which is currently under threat from Russian military invasion: the rich culture and national identity of Ukraine. Taras Shevchenko (born 9 March 1814) is an important part of both of these things. He was a poet and artist whose work is a foundation stone of modern Ukrainian literature. He wrote in Ukrainian about issues of Ukrainian identity, which contributed to him being exiled from his homeland for long stretches of his life by the Russian imperial authorities.
