I recently went on a ‘city break’ to Rome and while I had a fantastic time it struck me how the word ‘break’ is probably not the right one considering the intensity of visiting a city and trying to see as much as possible in just a few days! All the main sights in Rome are quite close together so we walked everywhere, dodging through enormous crowds of tourists and trying to arrive everywhere as early as possible to avoid queuing. I was at least grateful for Google maps, which was a great substitute for my terrible sense of direction in the narrow streets of Rome’s old town, saving us quite a few kilometres! Anyway, this was a few days ago now so enough time has passed to allow me to recover from my ‘break’ 🙂
