While large parts of the world are celebrating carnival with street parties and parades before the traditional period of fasting leading up to Easter, British people can be found at home in their kitchens tossing pancakes. You might think that this is a curious, and rather inward-looking, tradition for carnival time, but the festivities do sometimes spill out onto the street.
